Letting Go of Complaining
“Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining [against God] and questioning and doubting [among yourselves]” -Philippians 2:14 AMC
Complaining can become a habit.
Sometimes we complain without even realizing how often we are doing it.
We complain about the weather.
People.
Traffic.
Money.
Our bodies.
Our jobs.
What someone did.
What someone did not do.
Complaining may temporarily release frustration, but it can also keep our minds focused on dissatisfaction.
What we repeatedly speak about can become what we repeatedly think about.
Today is not about pretending that problems do not exist.
It is about learning the difference between expressing a real concern and living in a constant state of complaining.
You can acknowledge:
“This is difficult.”
Without declaring:
“Everything is terrible.”
You can say:
“I don’t like this situation.”
Without believing:
“Nothing will ever get better.”
Gratitude gives your soul a different language.
Reflection
What do I complain about most often? How does complaining affect my emotions?
What would change if I began replacing complaints with gratitude?
Try a 24-hour complaint fast.
Every time you catch yourself complaining:Stop.Take a breath.Rephrase what you are saying.Find something you can thank God for.
Prayer
Father, help me become aware of the words coming out of my mouth.
Show me where complaining has become a habit. Teach me how to express my feelings honestly without allowing negativity to take over my heart. Give me a new language of faith, hope, peace, and gratitude. Guard my mouth and renew my mind.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Decree:
I release complaining. I will not allow negativity to control my words or my attitude. My mouth will become a source of gratitude, faith, and life.
