Rest Instead of Striving
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
-Matthew 11:28 ESV
Rejection can create a life of striving.
We may constantly try to become more impressive, more helpful, more attractive, more successful, or more needed.
Sometimes we don't even realize we're doing it.
We simply know that we're exhausted.
Jesus offers another way.
He says, “Come to Me.”
He doesn't say, “Fix yourself first.”
He doesn't say, “Prove that you're worthy.”
He invites the weary to come and rest.
Salvation itself is a reminder that you cannot save yourself through performance.
Jesus has already done what you could never do for yourself.
There is nothing you can add to the finished work of Christ to make yourself more worthy of God's love.
You can serve God without striving for His approval.
You can grow without believing you must become perfect.
You can rest without feeling guilty.
Rest is not laziness.
Sometimes rest is an act of trust.
Take 10 minutes today without trying to accomplish anything. No productivity. No proving. No fixing. No performing. Simply sit with God. If your mind immediately says, “I should be doing something,” gently respond: “I am allowed to rest. God is not asking me to earn His love.”
Decree:
Jesus, teach me how to rest. I confess that I often try to earn what You have already freely given. I quit striving. Thank You for helping me trust in Your finished work. Amen.
Journal Prompt:
What would “resting in salvation” practically look like in my everyday life?
